Job Description

By responding to the Head of the Press Office, the press officer ensures that MSF's content and messages are correctly communicated through the media, helping to create a debate on humanitarian action, in line with the Organization's own priorities and principles. 

It guarantees the connection with the world of the media and promotes the development of new ideas aimed at strengthening the presence of the organization in the Italian media landscape.

It also guarantees support to MSF staff and humanitarian workers for the dissemination of the organization's communications on national, international and local media.

Role and Responsibilities

Main activities

  1. It ensures the writing, adaptation and dissemination of the organization's messages through traditional and online media

  2. It offers the media insights and / or projects on humanitarian issues in line with the communication strategies established by MSF at international and national level

  3. Identifies in-depth topics on the projects of the international movement of Doctors Without Borders, in coordination with the operational centers of MSF and proposes them to the media

  4. Ensures relations with the press and promotes the development of new initiatives and partnerships aimed at strengthening MSF's presence in the media

  5. It contributes to developing new contacts with the reference stakeholders and identifying new visibility opportunities for the organization

  6. It guarantees a correct connection with the world of media, also through online channels

  7. It guarantees the analysis of print outputs and produces ad hoc reports

  8. It supports MSF staff called upon to interact with the media

  9. Facilitates and supports interviews / press conferences of MSF humanitarian workers and MSF Italia managers

  10. Carries out briefing / debriefing with humanitarian workers

  11. Participate in working groups with other departments

Experience, Skills and Qualifications 

Position requirements

  • Experience of at least 3 years in a Press Office / journalistic editorial staff

  • Knowledge of the principles of humanitarian action, of MSF and of the international geopolitical context

  • Excellent knowledge of the Italian media landscape

  • Excellent editorial skills

  • Excellent relationship skills

  • Excellent knowledge of English and Italian (C1 / C2)

  • Knowledge of French and / or Arabic is considered an asset

  • Commitment to MSF principles
