The Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment has established a new specialist sub-centre, the Centre for Economic Transition Expertise (CETEx). CETEx focuses on leveraging, strengthening and amplifying research, as well as developing well targeted policy analysis and other outputs by convening policymakers and providing technical support, assistance and capacity-building. This new centre will support the reforms necessary to deliver sustainable, inclusive and resilient economies and financial systems across Europe and selected emerging market economies. The centre will recruit, host, and convene leading experts and stakeholders from academia, central banks, supervisors, finance and economic ministries, and international organisations to work together, develop tailored policy proposals and recommendations, and publish high-quality research and policy outputs. 

The postholder will lead an ambitious programme that provides research and technical support to monetary or fiscal policymakers in India, with the opportunity to work in other emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs). As a Policy Fellow within CETEx, they will conduct research, develop policies and lead engagements that help policymakers develop and implement policies that accelerate an inclusive, low-carbon and climate-resilient transition. The postholder will employ their reputation for rigorous policy-related research and related activities at a senior level to ensure that research outputs have demonstrable impact and inform policy.

Candidates should have a postgraduate degree in finance, economics, climate/environmental governance, environmental/ecological economics, public/social policy or a closely related field, by post start date, with experience working on environmental-related policy issues in India, and excellent understanding of issues facing EMDEs in the green transition and the impact of environmental risks and opportunities on financial and macroeconomic stability. Candidates should also have experience working closely with or within a monetary, fiscal or economic policymaker such as a central bank, financial regulator, finance ministry or a public finance institution, preferably on environmental risks or opportunities or other sustainability challenges. Candidates should also have experience in leading outputs (e.g. reports, briefings, events) that achieve impact by influencing policymakers, preferably on environment-related issues, as well as experience organising workshops or roundtable events bringing together stakeholders across different expertise to bridge the academic-policy gap. Flexibility to travel and engage independently with high level policymakers and present at workshops, conferences and other events is essential.
