IFPI advocates on the behalf of our member record companies and works to champion and defend the recorded music industry worldwide. Our goal is to improve the environment for record labels to operate in and support the growth and evolution of a thriving music ecosystem around the world.


Our work spans a wide range of fields including: worldwide policy engagement and campaigning, extensive industry data gathering and analysis, the launching and management of music charts, music copyright protection and enforcement, development of technology and data standards and managing best-practice in public performance rights collections. 


IFPI’s head office is in London, with regional hubs in Brussels, Nairobi, Singapore, Abu Dhabi, Miami, and Beijing. We have national groups and affiliates in 60 countries that represent their own local member record companies.


The position

IFPI is looking for maternity cover for our Deputy Director of Communications role. The successful candidate will join a busy global comms team based in central London. They will work in close collaboration with the Director of Communications and manage and support the development of the communications team alongside the delivery of IFPI’s global communications programme.


This is a vital and responsible role at the heart of both IFPI’s global team and our wider network of record label members and stakeholders. It requires an outstanding and experienced communications professional to work in one of the most dynamic and fast-changing creative industries. The role requires a passion for great communication. Knowledge and direct experience of the music industry would be beneficial.

 

Alongside the Communications Director, the Deputy Director of Communications works to manage and deliver the work of the IFPI global comms team. The key responsibilities include:


  • Development and delivery of IFPI campaigns – working with the communications team and IFPI directors to support with the development and delivery of key IFPI campaigns including driving awareness and understanding of the role of a record label and creating the right environments for sustainable AI in music.

  • Message development and dissemination - Collaborating with the above-mentioned group to develop the key messages and evidence points on priority industry campaigns and issues.

  • Development and delivery of IFPI programmes - including large message platforms such the Global Music Report – drawing on contributions from company execs and artist stories. This report forms the basis for communication with all stakeholders for the year and is launched at a global media event (attended physically and online by over 160 journalists).

  • Media engagement and relationship building - including overseeing our press office function and a media engagement programme to educate key stakeholders on our issues and positions.

  • Support with IFPI’s social media strategy – providing guidance and strategic oversight to our social media activity.

  • National Group engagement and coordination – coordinating closely with national group directors and comms leads, discussing ongoing and emerging media issues and supporting with engagement through the delivery of key messages, Q&A and evidence points.

  • IFPI profile building – Supporting with the management of IFPI’s reputation and building its presence online to support engagement activity - including organising, hosting and chairing events.

  • IFPI departmental support - Liaising directly with all IFPI departments to support them with communicating their activities to both internal and external audiences.

  • Direct support for CEO communications and other directors – Helping them to prepare for events, speaking and media opportunities.

  • Support for IFPI regional offices - Working with all IFPI’s regional offices to support them in establishing and expanding their presence and profile as well as supporting them with stakeholder engagement where needed.

  • Internal communications – including the delivery of an internal staff education programme to inform the global IFPI team on the work, approach and views of its member record companies. Features regular guest interviews.


Position requirements:

 

  • An outstanding senior communications professional with a deep understanding of media relations and a passion for good, clear, powerful communication

  • A proven team leader with experience of supporting the development of a growing communications team.

  • An exceptional writer with a track record of being able to produce high quality copy – from press releases to reports and articles – to strict deadlines;

  • At least seven years relevant experience, either an in-house or agency background 

  • Ability to understand, explain and summarise complex and sometimes technical subjects for non-technical audiences.

  • A collaborative and tenacious team player who will understand and enjoy working in cross-disciplinary teams and with multiple audiences and stakeholders;

  • A highly organised person able to prioritise tasks and workloads in a busy working environment;

  • Knowledge of the music or creative industries, will be a big advantage

  • Prepared to travel internationally from time to time to conferences and meetings;
