Duties


As a Business and Industry Specialist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Conduct industry analysis related to supply chains, investment, foreign trade opportunities, trade regulations, tariff and non-tariff trade barriers.

  • Lead assigned policy and administrative projects and workstreams.

  • Implement programs and engagements to strengthen U.S. industry international competitiveness and improve the competitive position of U.S. industry in foreign markets.

  • Communicating timely, expert-level analyses and program details to both internal and external audiences

  • Develop productive relationships with inter- and intra-agency colleagues, private sector and other non-governmental organizations and international representatives to obtain diverse perspectives and advance relevant strategic objectives.

Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.


To qualify at the GS-14 level:


SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as:


  • Analyzing national security issues such as commercial industrial base, defense industrial base, energy and natural resources, research and cyber security, information technology and economic security issues.

  • Coordinating work processes, managing team projects or soliciting input from different stakeholders.

  • Developing, recommending and defending policy changes involving commercial or economic matters.
