Cardno International Development seeks a Senior Consultant to join our Strategic Engagement and Partnerships team. Reporting to the Asia Pacific Strategic Engagement and Partnerships (SEP) Manager, the Senior Consultant will support Cardno ID to grow our diverse and sector-wide program portfolio. This role will be responsible for opportunity tracking, proposal planning and development including acting as a proposal writer and manager for a portfolio of opportunities. This is a corporate role based in Melbourne and requires interaction with a range of internal and external stakeholders, most often managing several aspects simultaneously. It will further serve and support the business development and engagement efforts of the SEP (Strategic Engagement and Partnerships) team and Cardno’s objectives within the region, positioning for and securing high value projects with an explicit focus on donors including DFAT and FCDO.
Role and Responsibilities
Identify and drive early market capture, tracking and scoping of assigned opportunities.
Lead proposal development and management of opportunities.
Lead proposal writing including working with the broader team to ensure members are producing high quality results within designated timeframes. All drafts produced for review to meet highest quality standards for presentation, clarity, and compliance.
Build and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders, including business partners and development consultants.
Participate in collaboration workshops with the client that will inform the proposal development.
Forecast and plan recruitment activities for upcoming opportunities.
Provide feedback to writers on proposal drafts highlighting gaps and driving continuous improvement. Participate in proposal debrief and lessons learned sessions.
Attend relevant industry events to maintain contacts and communications with peer and partner organizations and donors to build relationships, as required.
Coach junior staff to build similar professional networks of industry professionals.
Monitor and report on trends in aid policies and priorities under the Australian aid programs and participate in developing the company’s ongoing strategy to secure additional programs throughout the region.
Experience, Skills and Qualifications
Post-graduate degree in a relevant field (preferred);
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, having worked for a managing contractor or donor client in international development;
Relevant experience across the International Development sector, experience with policy analysis, research and proposals would be an advantage;
Strong sense of ownership, accountability and commercial acumen with regards to growing the organisation’s business;
Proven ability to build effective relationships with clients from a wide range of professional and cultural backgrounds, and to work effectively in politically sensitive and challenging environments;
Experience in working across the region with an ability to undertake international travel and an enthusiasm for tackling unfamiliar and challenging problems;
Outstanding English written and oral communication skills with additional regional languages is an advantage;
Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong team collaborative approach;
Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality outcomes;
Mature and professional approach to work;
Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines;
High-level ability to prioritise, plan and organise workflow to tight timeframes, handle multiple tasks, and be flexible with changing priorities;
Well-developed analytical and conceptual skills to reason through problems and complex issues, anticipate barriers, and create practical solutions;
Proven ability to maintain a positive outlook and sense of humour with team members.
