The goal of the Vanuatu Health Program (VHP) is to support the Ministry of Health (MoH) achieve the health objectives of the NSDP and its commitment to the delivery of health services demanded at national, provincial and local levels for a healthy, secure and productive population. The end of program outcomes (EOPOs) are:
Ministry of Health (MoH) senior staff lead continuous improvement and strengthened accountability of the Vanuatu health sector; and
MoH corporate services, public health and clinic services staff increase delivery of equitable, accessible and better quality essential health services.
Addressing gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) in health is a key focus for the VHP which is supporting the MoH in the implementation of its Health Sector Strategy and the improvement of health services. The VHP Inclusive Health Strategy and GESI Action Plan have recently been approved and a GESI Coordinator is to be recruited to support implementation.
The role The GESI Coordinator will play a key role in supporting and actively coordinating the implementation of VHP’s Inclusive Health Strategy and GESI Action Plan. The position will support the program staff to meaningfully integrate GESI across its four components, and the specific identified GESI activities and entry points in the health sector. The GESI Coordinator will provide support to counterparts in the MoH, including in the development of the new Health Sector Strategy (2021-2030). The position will be mentored and supported by the VHP GESI Adviser, with the goal of developing capacity and taking on more responsibility for GESI implementation over time.

Experience, Skills and Qualifications
Qualification in gender, development or a related discipline
A minimum of 5 years of GESI experience in a similar role
Demonstrated understanding of GESI issues in Vanuatu
Demonstrated capacity to interact with, and influence, various stakeholders
Highly developed interpersonal skills complemented by strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Bislama
Positive work ethic, with the ability to adapt and excel when faced with difficult problems or challenges
Capacity to work independently.
Experience or technical awareness of the health sector
Experience working on a donor-funded development program.
Experience working with civil society organisations
