The United Nations Secretary-General is responsible for the investment of the assets of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF). The Secretary-General has delegated this responsibility to the Representative of the Secretary-General for the investment of the assets of the UNJSPF (RSG). The RSG heads the Office of Investment Management (OIM), which manages a $60+ billion multi-asset class, global investment portfolio, about 85% of which is actively managed in-house. Asset classes under management comprise global equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, timber and commodities. This position is located in Risk and Compliance. The incumbent reports to the Deputy Director of Risk and Compliance.
Role and Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Risk Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
Analysis of risk and monitoring for private equity, real estate, infrastructure, timber, commodities, and currencies.
Performing operational/risk due diligence and monitoring of alternative and external asset managers.
Analysis benchmarks, out performance targets and risk budgets for the Fund's private markets and external managers, and oversees the conduct of performance and risk monitoring to evaluate results achieved against these benchmarks.
Develops and delivers assessment of portfolio risks of External Managers and Private Markets – Private Equity, Real Estate and Real Assets
Under the supervision of the Deputy Director for Risk and Compliance Service, implements a comprehensive risk monitoring mechanism for the investments and apply and oversees the process.
Develops a methodology for a risk and performance analysis appropriate for the investments (Private Markets – Private Equity,Real Estate and Real Assets) of the Fund and oversees the reporting.
Represents the Organization at inter-agency meetings, seminars, etc. on substantive-relative issues as instructed by the Deputy Director for Risk and Compliance Service.
Participates in international, regional or national meetings and provide programmatic/substantive expertise on Portfolio Risk Analysis and Performance Attribution, or holds programmatic/substantive and organizational discussions with representatives of other institutions.
Carries out other tasks as may be assigned by Deputy Director for Risk and Compliance Service.
Assist the Deputy Director for Risk and Compliance Service in setting and managing the Fund's risk budget for Private Markets on an ongoing basis.
Contribute to the weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual management and external reporting on the risks in the Fund.
Mentoring, guiding, and training new team members.
Experience and Qualifications
Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Business Administration (MBA), Finance, Financial Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field is required.
A first level university degree in combination with academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or equivalent professional certification is desirable.
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience working in investment management institutions is required.
A minimum of five years of experience in investment analysis or risk management in the areas of private equity or real estate is required.
Experience using risk management systems is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
