Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic project coordinator, researcher, and community organizer, preferably with experience and knowledge in fisheries issues. The Fisheries Project Coordinator is responsible for working with Ecotrust Canada’s fisheries leadership team to manage a fast-paced, partner-driven scope of work, which brings together fish harvesters, fishing communities, and decision-makers around a common goal of creating more sustainable and resilient fisheries on the West Coast of Canada.
Over the course of the initial 6 months, this position will have the opportunity to build momentum toward a permanent position that will oversee a wider breadth of Ecotrust Canada’s fisheries work.
Role and Responsibilities
Project coordination, including coordinating a team around design and development of research and reports.
Event coordination, including convening and hosting industry and community gatherings and workshop(s) as necessary.
Client/partner relationship building including liaison with local fish harvesters and organizations, government representatives, and First Nations.
Community relations and information gathering through interviews and other data gathering in communities.
Undertaking and/or overseeing research and analysis on fisheries policy and economics.
Supporting fisheries related fundraising, and supporting organization-wide fundraising.
Event coordination, including convening and hosting industry and community gatherings and workshop(s) as necessary.
Experience, Skills and Qualifications
Strong project coordination and administration skills, including, workload management and planning.
Experience in quantitative and qualitative research and data analysis, preferably in fisheries policy and economics.
Experience in writing detailed reports and summaries for a wide variety of audiences.
Proficient with event/meeting coordination software such as Eventbrite, Zoom, MS Teams, and similar.
Proficient in MS Excel and Word.
Postsecondary degree, or equivalent competencies developed through work experience.
Progressive principles and values, mission-driven and self-directed with a passion for Ecotrust Canada’s vision and mission.
Preference will be given to candidates with:
Experience working in, and with, Indigenous communities and a broad knowledge of social, economic and cultural issues and aspirations of Indigenous peoples.
Experience with multi-stakeholder engagement and process facilitation, partnership development, collaboration, and negotiation skills.
Knowledge of, and experience with, applicable laws, policies and regulations, in BC and federally, related to fisheries management.
Direct commercial fishing experience.
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Hootsuite, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
